淺見

這些例子可能比較接近一字多義。我貢獻一則雙關語，是多年前看笑片聽來的：

A writer was moaning because he was turned into a dwarf by a fairy. "I'm doomed. What can a man do in this size?"

His roommate tried to give comfort, "At least you can write. Maybe you'll make out a great piece of work someday."

"About what?" the writer cried out, "Short story?"

另一個觀點
不拘泥字面的話，short story可解為「矮人故事」，在此是自況。在下思想邪惡，沒什麼同情心，因此先想到這層意思。不過竊以為這比較像缺德的美式喜劇會埋的包袱。
